Played this today in class without ever seeing it played in real life, love Playmeo! I teach circus and the students are sometimes hesitant to take off their socks at school (fair enough, it’s a bit weird), but as soon as they saw that they needed a pair of socks to make an asteroid even the professional eye rollers whipped them off and joined in the squealing fun. Sure to be requested next lesson.
That’s outstanding Pip, thanks for sharing. A perfect example of distracting your group with fun to do something that, on its own, may not be completed otherwise.
A favorite of mine during our Star Wars unit! This gives younger students a chance to play a tag game but with a little bit of a twist!
Consistently remind students about aiming for waist and below- especially with young kiddos. Any opportunity for students to get moving is a great one- so the multiple lives rule and the catch/intercept a ball while out rule are both fantastic ones.
We also integrated another rule for older students, encouraging them to focusing more on either throwing/moving in space. If a student has an asteroid they were NOT allowed to move until it was thrown. A student can run wherever they like, but asteroids are so strong that they have to get rid of it before flying back into space. Also, asteroids are super heavy, so students could only hold one at a time.
This game ROCKS!
Too much Asteroids is never enough in my opinion, too!
