Lift The Energy In The Room

the Lazy Facilitator: Episode 04

So you look around the room and sense that you need to lift the energy of your flagging group… fast.

If you want your group to be leaning in, their brains switched on and ready to focus on something new, try one of the two strategies I share below.

Strategy #1

Simply ask people to turn to find a partner or turn to find someone next to them.

Guaranteed, this request alone will instantly raise the energy in the room. And even better, ask them to find someone based on a random category, such as the type of shoe they’re wearing or the month they were born or even the last digit of their phone number.

Strategy #2

Perform a short, sharp series of claps and motion to your group that you want them to mimic you (click play in the video below to see a quick example.)

Now, some, probably not all in the beginning, will copy you, and when they do, you perform a new rhythm of claps, and even more people will respond and so on.

Do this several times in the course of 30 seconds, and you’ll have everyone’s attention guaranteed, ready to move on.
