A Great 2-Minute Energiser to Wake Up Any Room

Why You’ll Love This Energiser

You can never have too many energisers—especially ones that are fun, fast, and super easy to lead.

Whether you’re running a training session, workshop, classroom activity, or conference, this one ticks all the boxes.

It boosts engagement, sparks energy, and is ‘done and dusted’ in less than 2 minutes.

After 35+ years of facilitating, I’ve led hundreds of quick energisers. But one of my all-time favourites is the simple, classic, laugh-out-loud energiser called Mr & Mrs Wright.

Why Two-Minute Energisers Work

In any facilitated session, two things are always true:

  1. Time is precious – your agenda is packed, and there’s little room for filler.
  2. People lose focus – without regular moments to reset and recharge, attention drops.

That’s where a short energiser can make all the difference.

A well-placed two-minute energiser acts like a mental reset button. It helps people shift gears, re-energise, and come back ready to focus again.

It’s one of the most valuable tools in your facilitation toolkit.

The Energiser: Mr & Mrs Wright

Now, let me introduce you to one of my favourite quick energisers to lead.

You can either run this activity yourself or hit play on the video above, where I read the script out loud.

It works best if your group is standing, or at least sitting, with enough space to step (or lean) to the left and right.

How to Set It Up

  • Ask your group to listen carefully to the story.
  • Every time they hear the word “right”, they are invited to step (or lean) to the right.
  • Every time they hear “left”, they are invited to step (or lean) to the left.
  • That’s it! No talking – just movement and listening.

Got the instructions? Let’s do this.

The Story of Mr & Mrs Wright

I want to tell you a story about Mr & Mrs Wright.

One evening, they were baking cookies when Mrs Wright suddenly said,
“Oh no, there’s no flour left! You’ll need to go out to the store right now.”

Mr Wright sighed, “I can’t believe you forgot to check the pantry.”

“It’ll only take 20 minutes if you come right back. Go to the corner of First and Second Streets and turn left at the stop sign. Then go to 43rd Street and turn right, and the shop will be on your left….”

…. and the story continues.

If you want to learn the rest of the story, be sure to click play on the video above.

Or, if you want to see a group actively engaged in this energiser, click the play button below.

In each case, the script is super simple, but it is carefully crafted to involve a series of fun and tricky moves.

Note, if you’re a subscriber, go ahead and visit the activity detail page, where you will be able to download two different story scripts.

How Did You Go?

So… did you keep up?

Did you get every movement right?

Did you mix up your lefts with your rights?

Maybe you bumped into someone else?

The beauty of this energiser is that it’s self-assessed – only you will know how well you performed.

If you tried this in a group setting, I’d love to hear how it landed.

Did people laugh? Did they move with enthusiasm?

Drop a comment and tell me what went right – or hilariously wrong. (And hey, I’ve got a little surprise for the first three people who share!)
