Step-by-Step Instructions

expand_circle_down
  1. In advance, position four cones to form a large square about 5 to 8 metres apart, with a fifth cone in the centre.
  2. Invite five volunteers to stand next to each of these cones, with the remainder of your group standing in a line off to the side.
  3. Announce that each person is challenged to remain in the game as long as possible.
  4. When ready, ask the person in the middle to call “SWITCH,” which will instruct everyone (the middle person and the other four) to run and occupy one of the four corner spots.
  5. No one is permitted to occupy (switch to) the centre cone.
  6. If two people claim to have arrived at the same cone simultaneously, invite them to engage in a quick game of ‘Rock-Paper-Scissors,’ and the winner occupies the spot.
  7. Naturally, with five people seeking to occupy one of only four corners, one person will miss out and will be eliminated and asked to join the end of the line.
  8. Invite the next person in line to occupy the middle cone, and call “SWITCH” when ready.
  9. Continue playing for as long as your group remains engaged and enthusiastic.
