Group Strategy Puzzle

This intriguing group activity transforms a deceptively simple group strategy puzzle into a high-stakes team initiative that demands collective thinking, clear communication and serious adaptability. Human Pegboard is a tricky group strategy activity that rewards patience as much as it punishes impulsive decision-making. Perfect for team-building programs or any session where you want every brain fully engaged.

Step-by-Step Instructions

expand_circle_down
  1. Arrange 10 poly spots on the ground in a triangle with four rows (see How to Play Narrative tab for diagram,) spacing each spot approximately one large step apart.
  2. Invite nine people to each stand on one spot, leaving one spot empty other than the three corners or the centre.
  3. Challenge your group to eliminate as many people as possible by making a series of jumps, ultimately leaving just one person remaining on the triangle.
  4. Any person may jump over an adjacent person into the empty spot directly beyond that person, in a straight line.
  5. The person who is jumped over steps off the triangle immediately (creating an empty spot.)
  6. No person standing on a spot can move unless they are making a jump, and only direct one-space jumps are permitted, ie spots cannot be skipped.
  7. Remind the group that every move aims to remove a person from the triangle, and every person remaining at the end represents a missed opportunity.
  8. Allow the group to attempt the puzzle multiple times in their efforts to have as few people remaining at the end of a round.
  9. Continue play for up to 20 minutes.
  10. To close, invite your group to reflect on their experience.
